Renesas launches a new FemtoClock 3 clock solution that balances ultra-low power consumption and excellent 25fs rms jitter performance

Postar em Jan 01,1970

On April 18, 2024, Beijing, China - Global semiconductor solution provider Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723) announced today the launch of a new ultra-low 25fs rms clock solution - FemtoClock 3- for wired infrastructure, data centers, and industrial applications, expanding its clock solution product lineup. The new product family includes ultra-low jitter clock generators and jitter attenuators with 8 and 12 differential outputs, which can achieve high-performance, easy-to-use, and cost-effective clock tree designs for the next generation of high-speed interconnect systems. The target applications of the new product include telecommunications switches and routers, rack mounted data center switches, medical imaging, broadcasting audio and video, etc.

The FemtoClock 3 product has industry-leading ultra-low phase noise and jitter, which can meet the needs of 112Gbps SerDes speed, as well as the design requirements of the next generation 224Gbps SerDes when using passive crystal oscillator inputs in the frequency range of 48MHz to 73MHz. This highly integrated product can have up to four clock domains and provides an integrated LDO (Low Voltage Differential Voltage Stabilizer) with excellent signal-to-noise ratio (PSRR), thereby reducing the complexity and cost of the circuit board.

Zaher Baidas, Vice President of the Timing Division for Renesas, stated, "With decades of experience and patented technology, Renesas Electronics is committed to providing high-quality clock solutions and driving industry progress. The FemtoClock 3 product greatly optimizes printed circuit board design, reduces the area and cost of solutions, and supports the continuous development and innovation of the industry by achieving ultra-low jitter multi clock and synchronization functions in a single device."

Vincent Ho, CEO at UfiSpace, stated, "FemtoClock 3 is a clock solution that provides us with ultra-low jitter performance while maintaining low power consumption, optimizing printed circuit board design, and reducing the area of the next generation switch solution. With the clock solution created by Renesas, we have the ability to launch advanced products in an efficient and cost-effective manner."

Key features of the FemtoClock 3 product family

The industry-leading 25fs Rms jitter performance exceeds the reference clock requirements of the next generation 112Gbps and 224Gbps SerDes

Supports up to 4 clock domains, allowing for the generation of all system clocks from a single device

There are a variety of product models, which can provide jitter attenuation, clock synchronization, and clock generation functions, and have 8 or 12 differential output terminals

Power consumption as low as 1.2W, using 1.8V single power supply

Integrated non-volatile memory, allowing for device customization at the factory without additional cost for customers

Small 7mm x 7mm 48 pin VFQFPN package, and 9mm x 9mm 64 pin VFQFPN package

Compliant with ITU-T G.8262 and G.8262.1 standards for enhanced synchronous Ethernet

A single-chip solution that supports multiple working modes greatly simplifies the overall clock tree

FemtoClock 3 supports multiple working modes, including synchronization, jitter attenuation, and clock generation. Customers can integrate the new FemtoClock 3 solution with Renesas ClockMatrix VersaClock, clock drivers, and active crystal oscillators are combined to meet the high requirements, high reliability, and complex clock design requirements of high-performance wired infrastructure and data centers.

FemtoClock 3 seamlessly integrates with the Renesas IC Toolbox (RICBox) application, allowing users to configure and program components on the evaluation board. In addition, RICBox can also connect with Renesas Lab on cloud platforms, providing users with the ability to connect virtually to real laboratory environments.
