·The OpenGMSL standard is based on the industry-leading gigabit multimedia serial link technology GMSLTM, providing an open standard for video and/or high-speed data transmission. The application and innovation of this standard will reshape the development of autonomous driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and information entertainment systems.
Beijing, China, June 4, 2025- Several leading automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), first tier suppliers, semiconductor manufacturers, and ecosystem partners have jointly announced the establishment of the OpenGMSL Alliance, aimed at bringing together industry forces to build SerDes transmission of video and/or high-speed data into an open standard for the global automotive ecosystem.
From ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) to infotainment systems and autonomous driving, the demand for various modern automotive systems is rapidly growing. ADAS visual systems heavily rely on high-quality video data to make critical real-time decisions, thereby improving driving safety and reducing accidents. Meanwhile, touchscreen infotainment systems require high-speed, low latency connections to provide a smooth immersive user experience. The above factors have increased the development cost of new car models, made integration more complex, suppressed innovation, and ultimately delayed the improvement of safety performance.
