MALVERN, Pennsylvania, USA, Shanghai, China - May 7, 2025- Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of the industry's first rectangular ambient light sensor that complies with the AEC-Q100 standard - VEML4031X00. The Vishay VEML4031X00 integrates ALS and high-sensitivity infrared (IR) photodiodes, and is packaged in an opaque 4.38 mm x 1.45 mm surface mount with a thickness of only 0.6 mm. The width of the device is only half of the previous generation, making it easier to integrate into space limited designs such as frameless central control displays.
The spectral sensitivity of the recently released automotive grade sensor is comparable to that of the human eye, enabling high-precision measurements. Additionally, its infrared channel allows for the differentiation of light sources. The ambient light detection range of VEML4031X00 is from 0 lx to 172000 lx, and it will not saturate under daylight conditions. Its high sensitivity of 0.0026 lx/ct allows the device to be placed behind dark cover glass.
The working temperature range of VEML4031X00 is -40 to+110 ° C, and it can be used for display backlight control, information entertainment systems, rearview mirror dimming, interior lighting control systems, and head up displays. In these applications, the sensor supports an easy-to-use I2C bus communication interface and provides interrupt functionality.
VEML4031X00 supports a power supply voltage range of 2.5 V to 3.6 V, an I2C bus voltage range of 1.7 V to 3.6 V, and a typical turn off current value as low as 0.5 μ A. These devices comply with RoHS standards, are halogen-free, and meet Vishay green standards. According to J-STD-020, they have a humidity sensitivity level of 2a and a workshop storage time of four weeks.
The new ambient light sensor can now provide samples and has achieved mass production, with an ordering cycle of 14 weeks.
