Melexis releases the first product of MeLiBu 2.0 protocol: Lighting up the Future of Automotive Lighting

Postar em Jan 01,1970

On March 14, 2025, Tyson Delo, Belgium - Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, announced the launch of the MLX80142 dual RGB LED driver chip (six channels). As the latest member of the Mindray intelligent state machine LED driver chip series, this is the first product to support MeLiBu? 2.0 protocol products. This chip is not only equipped with the mature LED driving technology of Mindray, but also supports code free optional solutions, designed specifically for the next generation of intelligent RGB lighting applications. In addition, the in mold assembly process adopted can effectively cope with strict space constraints, providing higher flexibility in design for compact lighting solutions.

LED lighting has become an important component of modern automotive design, achieving striking visual contrast, clear visual feedback, and excellent lighting effects in dark environments. To meet the latest application requirements, automobile manufacturers and first tier suppliers need to adopt cost-effective LED driver chips to support complex dynamic lighting applications, while ensuring a simple and efficient integration and development process.

MLX80142 Product Specifications

MLX80142 is a six channel chip that enables high-precision and high-speed control of dual RGB LEDs. This chip supports the use of non crossing PCB layouts to design simple single-layer PCBs, as well as encapsulated components such as in mold structural electronics (IMSE) without PCBs. This design can effectively simplify the integration process and help users develop highly compact design solutions with a total width of only a few millimeters, making the MLX80142 very suitable for creating space constrained lighting components (such as lighting components in instrument panels or door linings).

To ensure reliable operation, the MLX80142 is equipped with a directly connected internal bus. Even if any chip connected to the same bus configuration fails, it will not affect the normal function of other LED driver chips. In addition, the chip meets the independent safety element (SEooC) requirements of ASIL B, making it equally suitable for vehicle safety lighting applications.

MLX80142 has successfully simplified the deployment process of complex LED systems using code free development methods. As the first MeLiBu to adopt a state machine configuration? The MLX80142 driver chip not only simplifies the development process, but also minimizes related costs and workload to the greatest extent possible.

MeLiBu?  two

With the continuous upgrading of lighting requirements in the automotive industry, traditional CAN and LIN networks are no longer able to meet current demands. Manufacturers are committed to applying more high-speed dynamic RGB LEDs and developing dynamic lighting functions based on scenes and contexts to achieve intelligent lighting in specific situations. MeLiBu from Mailaixin? The technology achieves high-speed dynamic lighting applications beyond traditional LIN and CAN automotive networks through UART over CAN-FD communication.

MeLiBu?  2.0 in existing MeLiBu? On the basis of the solution, functional extensions have been made to control over 3500+RGB LEDs (i.e. over 10500 LED beads) distributed throughout the entire vehicle, with communication speeds up to 4 Mbit/s.

MLX80142 as the first MeLiBu compatible product? 2.0 protocol LED driver chip, supports up to each MeLiBu? The subnet drives 500 RGB LEDs, significantly improving the lighting performance of the vehicle. This performance improvement enables car manufacturers to deploy more complex dynamic lighting systems without increasing design complexity or cost.

Michael Bender, Director of Product Line at McLaren, said, "Automotive lighting is a key element of human car interaction. It not only conveys safety information, but also enhances visual recognition capabilities and enables personalized customization. The combination of second-generation MeLiBu? Technology and MLX80142 not only saves space, but also helps manufacturers develop various attractive new dynamic lighting solutions and integrate them into previously difficult to achieve vehicle areas
