Shanghai, China, February 20, 2025- Leading global optical solutions provider, ams (SIX: AMS), announced today the launch of two new sensor modules, once again demonstrating its deep cultivation and development in the field of computed tomography (CT) technology. These two modules, as core components of advanced diagnostic imaging technology, will provide more accurate diagnostic and treatment support for various clinical applications such as oncology and cardiovascular disease treatment, helping to achieve early diagnosis of diseases. The new product will help upgrade medical imaging technology in various segmented fields of the CT market. Aiming at the high-end CT market, AMS Osram has specially launched a new system level packaged sensor module designed for photon counting detectors, which can significantly reduce radiation dose and enhance diagnostic value. AMS Osram has also launched a new sensor module for the price sensitive CT market, which ensures high-quality medical imaging while having a highly competitive price advantage.
Ivo Ivanovski, Head of the Medical Imaging and OEM Product Line at AMS Osram, said, "AMS Osram is focusing on developing sensor modules that combine cutting-edge technology and cost-effectiveness to achieve high-resolution, information rich, and low-dose CT scanning. Our high-performance and affordable sensor modules not only significantly improve the accessibility of modern CT technology, but also bring breakthrough performance improvements. With the new photon counting detector, AMS Osram is playing a key role in the transformation of medical imaging technology, driving the level of medical treatment to new heights
AS5920M - The first innovative packaging solution from AMS Osram for photon counting detectors
CT, as an important medical imaging technology, generates 3D images of the whole body or local organs through X-rays to assist doctors in diagnosing diseases and monitoring treatment outcomes. However, due to the dependence of CT on ionizing radiation, how to minimize radiation dose while ensuring diagnostic effectiveness has always been a major social challenge for popularizing modern medical services such as pediatric examinations and screening applications.
In response to this challenge, AMS Osram has launched the AS5920M photon counting detector, which uses innovative technology to directly detect individual X-ray photons, breaking through the limitations of traditional X-ray detectors that indirectly measure radiation intensity. This unique detection technology not only significantly reduces the radiation dose of CT scans, but also ensures that image quality and resolution are not affected, thereby greatly expanding the applicability of CT equipment in advanced diagnostic tasks and patient screening applications for regulatory certification.
In addition, the new AS5920M has ultra-high resolution. The pixel size of its detector is nine times smaller than traditional CT detectors, thanks to its excellent material resolution, low noise, and excellent contrast. AS5920M can provide accurate diagnostic information in the early stages of the disease, thereby improving patient treatment outcomes.
With this innovative product for the future, AMS Osram provides CT system developers with an advanced System in Package (SiP) solution, effectively reducing system integration complexity. This solution integrates multiple integrated circuits (ICs) and passive components into a single package without the need for external components, significantly optimizing the Bill of Materials (BOM). The four sided system encapsulation (BSIP) design supports the juxtaposition of multiple devices in any direction, allowing for the construction of large-sized detector areas that perfectly meet the needs of clinical CT applications.
AS5952M - High cost performance, high-performance 64 row CT imaging sensor module
To achieve widespread popularization of CT medical services, the market urgently needs sensor modules that combine high cost-effectiveness and excellent performance. The AS5952M module was developed to meet the urgent needs of the medical imaging industry. This module consists of three new AS5952 sensor chips, which adopt a three sided adhesive design, effectively reducing manufacturing complexity and cost. The module adopts the stitching technology independently developed by AMS Osram wafer factory, which ensures that the long sensor chip has high quality. AS5952M integrates dark current optimization, noise minimization, and power consumption reduction, making it an ideal choice for 64 layer CT systems with a coverage range of 4 centimeters. In the mainstream CT niche market, this wide sensor coverage is crucial for improving acquisition speed and reducing motion artifacts.
The AS5952 application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) integrates a 256 channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a photodiode array into a single chip package. This integrated design not only significantly shortens the distance between the photodiode and ADC, greatly reduces costs, but also achieves excellent noise control. Therefore, AS5952M has become a performance and cost optimization model for the price sensitive CT market.
